How Would You Rather Live?

The question this week is...

Would you rather live 120 years that are comfortable but boring, Or live half as long, but have an exciting adventure packed life?

I've thought about this question over the past couple of days and I think I would rather do the latter.

What's the point of the first one?

  • Yes, you would be comfortable as stated.
  • Yes, you'd get to live for a long time.
  • Boring... Isn't always bad.

But, is that what living is all about?

Comfortable, long, boring, safe?

I don't think so.

Life was meant to be lived.

If this is your first visit to my site then this is probably new news to you, but if you are part of my community then you know how I feel about "Living" your life.

I'd rather only live for 60 years and have many adventures and know when I'm laying on my death bed that I did everything I could.

Instead of laying on my death bed wishing, I would have done something else.

What's life if you aren't "Living"?

What's life without some adventure?

I'm currently reading a book called Wild At Heart by John Eldredge and it is all about what is inside a man's heart.

And one of those things as you might have guessed it is an adventure.

Men seek out adventure.

And before you even go there my friends it isn't just men who seek out adventure women can as well, but the adventures we seek as men and women are often different.

But that's a topic for another post.

The point I'm trying to make here is that life is meant to be lived, and if you're not living your life and having adventures in life then what are you really doing?

Sure not every day is going to be comfortable.

There are going to be days when things are hard and probably not very pleasant, but does that mean you don't want to live it?

Sure there could be days that you think are boring.

But to that, I will say that I believe boredom is a state of mind and anything that is a state of mind we can change.  So if you are bored that of your own doing.

But that also is a topic for another day.

Sure you may not live as long as people who always play it safe in life.

But for the time you do have why not use it to get the very most out of life you possibly can.

And as far as safety goes...

Well, I would argue safety is also a state of mind.

Is anyone or anything ever truly safe?

We might think we are or we might think we have everything planned out, but the reality is that our lives could change in a blink of an eye.

It's not about how safe we are, it's about how we deal with things when they come our way.

We can't control what happens outside of us, but we can always control how we respond or think about things.

Safety is an illusion.

Instead, why don't you think about it this way...

I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I want to personally be prepared mentally and physically to handle whatever comes my way the very best that I can be.

Stop trying to control what's outside of you and start working on controlling what's inside of you.

To sum it all up, my friends...

I'd rather live 60 years of adventure and truly living the life I've been given. Then wasting away for 120 years miserable and safe.

Do me a favor before you go...

  1. Great post! You made a lot of valid points. Definitely got the gears turning. I agree that safety is an illusion- everything is constantly changing & evolving... we should be doing the same. People get comfortable and lose sight of that. Including myself. I’m working on myself inside and out... that in itself is an adventure and just work on putting myself out there. Be open to new things and new possibilities.
