PEACE...
What does that word even mean anymore?
Is it even achievable anymore?
Yeah, I know anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a huge fan of the concept of peace because I think it is the furthest thing from what people actually want today.
Let alone what I think some people are even willing to achieve or work towards.
With that being said there are some forms of peace I do believe in and that is what I want to talk to you about today.
Let's start by defining what Peace is...
Peace
noun
Freedom from disturbance; tranquility.
So if Peace... is Freedom from Disturbance and a Tranquility then here are the forms of peace I do believe in.
Peace Of Mind
I think with all of the information we take in a single day and the constant bombardment of stimuli we are assaulted with each day it is harder now more than ever to silence and quiet our minds.
I think part of the reason why mental illness and mental disorders are such big topics of conversation these days is that most people's brains are on overload.
(When I make this statement please understand I don't mean that the brain can't process all of the information it takes in, what I am saying is our conscious mind can't evaluate and sort everything we take in throughout our day. It can't sort if it's good information and should be stored and used when needed, or if it is bad information and it can be discarded.)
Yes, I know that sleep is supposed to help us do those things, if that's all you needed then why do we have an increase in insomnia? and why is it that when people sleep a good part of the day they don't get any better? Why are they not peaceful if they get more sleep?
It's because sleep alone can't help you.
If you want to have a peaceful mind you have to start making conscious decisions as to what you want to come into and out of your mind.
You can control what goes into your mind but it's something you're going to have to make a conscious decision about throughout your day.
Also, you are going to have to give your mind times throughout the day where you can allow it to be silent to think and ponder on things. That will mean you have to turn off all other distractions and sit by yourself and be with your thoughts.
Oh right, we live in a day and time where you would rather slam your hand in the car door than have to sit quietly somewhere with your own thoughts.
Listen if you want a peaceful mind you're going to have to work on it and take action each day to make that happen. It will never happen if you just leave your mind to it, you are going to have to start being intentional with your mind and training your mind to work for you instead of against you.
Peace Of Heart
I think in order to have peace in your heart you have to be willing to accept people and things in life as they are, not as you want them to be, accepting them truly as they are.
Believe me, this is a lot easier to say than it is to do in practice.
In order to do this, you have to be willing to stop listening to what people tell you sometimes and you have to start watching what they do. If their actions and words don't match then you will have to believe what they are showing you.
You will also need to start living more in the present moments than in the past or the future. You'll have to intentionally start being more present with people and in situations.
You'll also have to stop having pre-conceived notions about how people should be or what they should do or how a situation should have happened or what the outcome should have been.
Basically, you need to start taking "Should of" out of your vocabulary and start seeing and noticing things for how they really are right now.
Peace Of Your Soul
I think until you have peace of mind and peace of your heart there is no way you can have peace of your soul.
Peace of your soul to me is having a calm in your life and having a calming sense about you to others.
When you are peaceful in your soul others around you should feel that there is something different about you. They might not be able to put their finger on it but you will stand out from others especially in today's world.
Calmness and a peaceful soul are very rare in our world today.
I don't think many people today have a peaceful soul. I'd be willing to also say that many people would argue that they don't even have a soul because they haven't felt it for so long.
Just because you haven't felt it in forever doesn't mean you don't have a soul. What it does mean is maybe you need to start making some conscious decisions to change that and to seek peacefulness in your soul.
Peaceful Mind + Peaceful Heart + Peaceful Soul = A Calm and Peace Self
Is it easy... No.
Is it worth it... Yes.
Once you have achieved some peacefulness in your life the last step is protecting the peace you've achieved.
Don't let anyone or anything take your peace away from you.
Make conscious decisions each day to protect your peace and always weigh your decisions going forward with this in mind...
Will this decision help to bring more peace and calmness into my life?
Or, will this decision bring more drama and chaos into my life?
The choice is always yours my friends, but I hope that once you get a taste of a little peace and calmness in your life you'll want more and more.
